Oasis in the City

Chiffon maxi dress: c/o HERE| Earrings: Similar option HERE & HERE| Purse: TJMAX| Velvet mules: c/o HERE

Life in a big city can be pretty overwhelming. I live in Los Angeles (one of the largest), it is overcrowded, noisy, smelly, and super fast paced. Since I am not a native to the area, I enjoy stepping outside of LaLa life once a month or so, to take a breather. Sometimes my mini escapes are prolonged due to personal obligations. When that happens I find it refreshing to escape if only for a few hours to a quiet setting, preferably one with minimal foot trafficπŸ˜‰

By the way, this dress is total vacation goals! Although my next tropical escape is about 3 weeks away, wearing this dress totally took me out of the hustle and bustle of city life and into my very own private oasis 😍
Until next time Loves,
Xx

It's Still Summer

Hat: HERE| Dress: c/o HERE| Handbag: Older, similar option HERE| Suede Sandals: Via Spiga, old

So it's almost Fall, but not quite, which means that it is still summer 😊 I took advantage of this simple fact, and put this outfit together for a spin. I acquired both the hat and dress about the same time (a few weeks ago), although neither were intentionally meant to be paired with the other. However, when the dress came in the mail I immediately knew that it belonged with this hat πŸ’₯ Wasn't I right? Don't they look so happy together?! LOL!
If you're a regular visitor to my blog I will not bore you again about my ❤ of black & white color duos...Instead, I'll introduce you to a new-to-me brand, Simply Be. Simply Be is a UK based women's fashion retailer. They aren't new to the scene, in fact according to their site - "We’ve been leading the way in plus-size fashion for years, so we know a thing or two about creating perfect fits. Every time. And for everybody."

And check out this ah-mazing mission statement:

WE ARE NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL.
AND WE ARE NOT A FAD.

CURVE IS NOT A TREND OR A HOT TOPIC.
IT’S NOT AN ADD-ON OR AN AFTERTHOUGHT.
IT’S AT THE HEART OF EVERYTHING WE DO.

IT’S WHY WE EXIST.
WE’VE BEEN HERE SINCE DAY ONE.
AND WE’RE STILL LEADING THE WAY.

WE DEMAND STYLE. WE DEMAND FIT.
AND WE HATE COMPROMISE.

WE ARE SIMPLY BE.

WE ARE CURVES.

This vintage inspired midi dress flatters a variety of body types, and it comes with a high neck and cut-out shoulder detailing. It's currently available is sizes 8-28, plus you have the option of selecting from two different lengths (which I didn't realize when I ordered it).

The cut-outs are my absolute favorite feature hands down! Not only are they great alternative to the cold shoulder trend, but they also tie in wonderfully with the vintage design.

I got a number of compliments both times that I wore this look - I look forward to styling the dress and the hat with existing items in my wardrobe.

Until next time,
Xx

Off and On Again

Headwrap: Old scarf| Dress: c/o HERE| Beaded clutch: Zara

Have you ever changed your mind about a particular style ? For instance at one point it was a favorite but then over time you found that you didn't like it so much anymore? Or perhaps you always shied away from it, but then found that it was a style you actually liked  at present? I have had an on/off relationship with maxi dresses/skirts for years. On one hand I loved the seemingly endless flow, but then on another hand I felt that they were totally unflattering to my height. For a few years I did not buy or wear them at all. However last summer my style taste for them shifted, I found myself willing to wear them here and there. This summer I am fully on board, as a result I have acquired a number of maxi dresses along with a skirt or two. Apparently 2017 is the summer of the maxi! LOL! I'm enjoying this moment, without putting pressure on myself to make this a long-term affair 😏
Until next time,

Silver Lining

Hat: Nordstrom, similair HERE & HERE| Bodysuit:Old, sold out (also worn HERE)| Statement necklace: Nordstrom
Jeans: c/o HERE| Velvet mules: c/o HERE| Purse: Thrifted
As much as I love tossing prints (see recent examples HERE & HERE) along with being drenched in bold tantalizing hues, I also thoroughly appreciate neutral color palettes. My personal style is a mixture, or maybe I should say a combination of a number of style genres. To be 100% transparent, I dress according to my mood, which fluctuates. LOL! I would be bored to no end if I could only delve into one style genre. VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE!!! I don't like to always look the exact same way style wise 😊
Today's look features a bodysuit that I scored last winter, along with newly acquired distressed denim jeans. Instead of adding in a pop of color (a familiar routine), I added in pops of black by way of a tweed pom hat, leather purse, and velvet shoes. This gave the look textural interest, which is yet another form of variety. This look was perfect for a chill evening, out and about shooting the breeze.
Until next time,
Xx

Gingham For the Win

Sunnies: c/o HERE| Earrings: Old, another option HERE & HERE | Shirt: JCP, similar HERE
Dress: Old, similar HERE & HERE| Shoes: Zara| Handbag: Kate Spade, similar HERE

Hey Babes, I'm back in yet another print toss, this time by way of pinstripes and gingham. I mentioned HERE how simple playing in prints can be when using black & white as a base.
The base for this look is a classic gingham shirt dress with an a-line skirt. In a somewhat unorthodox way, I layered on an over-sized pinstripe shirt, knotting it at my waist while letting the back of the shirt hang down. I purchased this shirt 3 sizes too big with the sole intention of styling it this way. Since it features side slits, it is easy to knot it in the front while still enjoying length in the back πŸ˜‰ I've also styled it tied around my waist, worn as a kimono of sorts, and next up I plan to wear it as a shirt dress.
Both pieces pictured here are 100% cotton, classic prints, and 100% versatile.
I look forward to styling both of them again and again!
Until next time,
XO

Surviving Summer

Scarf  & earrings: Nordstrom| Dress c/o HERE| Velvet mules: c/o HERE| Vintage leather clutch: Thrifted

The 1st day of August reminds us that the dog days of summer are almost over 😲 Although many of us spend the majority of the year anticipating summer weather, sometimes when it arrives it can be downright brutal. Don't get me wrong: summer is hands down my favorite season 😜 However, if I am completely honest, here are a few of my not so favorite things about summer madness:
  • extreme heat
  • excess sweating
  • humidity (although a measure of it really is good for your skin)
  • unpredictable hair (good curls, bad curls and everything in-between)
  • chub rub
What will you be happy to say goodbye to when summer 2017 reaches its end?!
    Until next time,
    XO

    Totally a Repeat Offender

    Sunnies: c/o HERE| Earrings: another option HERE| Top: c/o HERE| Shorts: F21, old| Mini purse: c/o HERE| Sandals: c/o Charlotte Russe

Babes I am totally a repeat offender - there are wardrobe workhorses that I rely on monthly (sometimes weekly) for effortless style. There are other pieces that I look forward to repeating from season to season. These printed black & white shorts acquired on sale last summer are a seasonal wardrobe workhorse. Although I don't wear them monthly, they are definitely a warm weather item that I look forward to wearing from season to season. Check out how I styled them last summer HERE.
I've long admitted my πŸ’— of black and + white color duos. This pair of shorts features the tried & true color scheme with a bonus feature: a unique twist on classic stripes!
This time around I paired my shorts with a white long sleeve cold shoulder blouse trimmed with black stripes. I think the two go together like peanut butter & jelly πŸ˜‹ and can also take me into the milder part of Fall with ease.
    Until next time,
    Xx

    Bold Patterns

Sunnies: c/o HERE| Earring: Similar HERE & HERE| Striped blouse: Ashley Stewart, sold out
Ankara dress: c/o HERE| Pink sandals: Vince Camuto, old| Purse: Coach, old

We just took a glimpse into Fall with my last post, but today I’m back into summer mode with a fun print ankara print midi dress. Not only is its P I N K hue EVERYTHING, but the print offered me yet another opportunity to delve into the mixed prints game. At times I read that mixed prints can be intimidating to some, one of the easiest ways to transition into the print toss game is by way of black & white. I’ve shown a few examples here on the blog of how to mix patterns/prints solely using black & white (see HEREHERE, HERE). Today’s post is an example of how to do so while incorporating other colors.
This dress is perfection for casual summer wear, but for the office I opted to add in sleeves. Or shall I say statement sleeves? 😊 Have I mentioned recently exactly how cold my office is?! Seriously, like the north pole ⛄ Nonetheless, I digress…
Over to you: How are you playing with mixed prints this summer?
    Until next time,
    XO

    Fall Flow

earrings: c/o HERE| one shoulder top: c/o HERE| jeans: c/o HERE| watermelon clutch: c/o HERE| patent leather sandals: old, another option HERE

When Forever 21 reached out to me and asked me to style a few pieces with Fall in mind, I thought it was going to be a challenge. I’m totally still in a summer frame of mind😲 I was wrong Babes-this assignment was a breeze! I found a number of pieces that are great for transitional wear, including this one-shoulder striped blouse. Cold shoulders are all the rage, this number gets an update for Fall with a one-shoulder feature and long sleeves. I decided to pair it with medium wash blue denim jeans plus  pops of red. Red can go with practically any color, but there is something about pairing red with blue that just feels right.
Like it or not, Fall is just over the horizon, soon the days will get shorter, the leaves will change colors and eventually fall off, and in some areas white stuff called snow will fall from the sky!
However, we need not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet 😊
For now let’s live in the present and fully enjoy the glory  of  S U M M E R 2017!!!
    Until next time,
    Xx
